Parents do not reroute the seat belt between trips, which eliminates the daily reinstallation error rate that makes belt-routed installations unreliable in practice.
The four-step process: fasten the tether to the vehicle anchor point first, route the seat belt through the belt guide, click into place, close the SafeLock door. The tether must be connected for SafeLock to function correctly. It is not optional and cannot be skipped in favour of a tighter belt route.
LATCH installation is available as an alternative but carries weight limits: 30 lbs maximum in rear-facing mode and 35 lbs maximum in forward-facing mode. Belt installation via SafeLock has no equivalent weight cap for the harness modes. Only one installation method should be used per trip. Do not combine LATCH and the vehicle seat belt simultaneously.
