Nuna RAVA Safety Features Explained
The Nuna RAVAâs safety architecture combines four elements: side impact protection (SIP) pods, energy-absorbing foam, an all-steel frame with reinforced belt path, and the rebound bar included with the Canadian version.
SIP pods are purpose-built inserts inside the seat shell that compress in a side collision to reduce forces on the child. They are not simply thickened side walls and are a model-specific feature of the RAVA.
Energy-absorbing foam is integrated throughout the seat structure. It works alongside the SIP pods in side impacts and adds supplementary protection in frontal collisions.
The all-steel frame runs through the full structure, and the reinforced belt path prevents the vehicle belt from cutting or shifting under crash loads.
The no-rethread five-point harness adjusts height with the headrest without re-routing straps at any of the ten positions. The infant insert supports children from 5 lbs to 11 lbs and must be removed once the child reaches 11 lbs per the Nuna manual.
Nuna RAVA vs the Clek Foonf: Quick Comparison
Parents comparing the Nuna RAVA vs the Clek Foonf are choosing between two premium Canadian convertibles with several shared attributes: both carry CMVSS 213, both are flame-retardant-free, both hold GREENGUARD Gold certification, and both support rear-facing to 40 lbs in Canada. The Clek Foonfâs forward-facing limit starts at 22 lbs; the RAVAâs starts at 25 lbs.
The most practical difference is installation method. The RAVA installs vehicle seat belt first and fits a wider range of seating positions, with no LATCH weight limit. The Clek Foonf uses rigid LATCH as its primary method. Rather than a rebound bar, the Foonf uses an energy-absorbing crumple zone as its anti-rebound strategy.
Seat width is the other deciding factor. The RAVA measures 19.5 inches wide and does not fit well in most three-across configurations. The Clek Foonf is one of the narrowest convertible seats available in Canada, making it the stronger choice for families needing to fit three seats across a rear bench.

Nuna RAVA Materials, Comfort, and Everyday Use
The Nuna RAVA holds GREENGUARD Gold certification, independently tested for over 360 VOCs and chemical emissions. This is a third-party certification, not a brand self-claim, and is a primary reason the RAVA is a consistent choice for parents selecting a convertible car seat in Canada with chemical-sensitive considerations in mind.
Flame-retardant-free fabrics are used across every component, from the seat cover to the harness pads, across all colorways. The materials are inherently flame resistant without added chemical flame retardant agents.
Ventilation panels allow airflow during use. The knit fabric is breathable and machine washable on a cold delicate cycle per Nunaâs care instructions.
The seat provides up to 2 inches of additional rear-facing legroom through an adjustable calf support, relevant for children who approach the height limit before reaching 40 lbs. Dual flip-open cup holders can be moved away from the belt path during installation. The ten-position one-hand headrest adjusts with the harness, with no re-threading at any setting. The Nuna RAVA is approved for aircraft use.
